AfterFew things are more frustrating than having a beautifully clean oven only to still see streaks, drips or grease trapped between the glass in the door. We understand. Once you notice them, they're hard not to notice. There's a reason so many oven doors end up with a kitchen towel hanging over the handle.
Unfortunately, getting to those drips isn't as simple as cleaning the rest of your oven.
What looks like a glass window is actually a carefully assembled part of your oven.
Depending on the manufacturer and model, an oven door may contain two, three or even four layers of glass along with insulation, spacers, brackets, trim, seals and a spring-loaded hinge system.
Those layers aren't there simply so you can see what's cooking. They help manage the tremendous temperature difference between the inside of your oven and the surface you touch on the outside.
And here's something many homeowners don't realize:
The space between oven glass isn't necessarily sealed from the outside world.
Oven doors are designed to manage heat, airflow, expansion and contraction. That means moisture, steam, grease and cleaning solution can sometimes find their way between the panes.
That's how those frustrating drips got there in the first place.
If we could simply reach between the glass and wipe away the drips, we would.
The problem is access.
Cleaning those surfaces can require removing the entire oven door from the appliance and then taking the door itself apart. Depending on the model, that can mean removing trim and fasteners, managing spring-loaded hinges, separating several pieces of tempered glass, keeping track of spacers and insulation, and then putting everything back together in exactly the correct order.
That's where an ordinary cleaning request becomes a specialty door-disassembly service.
There are thousands of oven models on the market, and door construction varies tremendously—not only between manufacturers, but between models and even generations of the same appliance.
Some doors are relatively straightforward.
Others are anything but.
We've been professionally cleaning ovens for nearly 14 years, and we've worked on countless makes and models during that time.
That experience has also taught us when not to take something apart.
There is simply no universal oven-door design. A technician can be extremely experienced at oven cleaning and still encounter a door assembly they've never seen before.
Even appliance repair companies specialize. Some work only on particular manufacturers and train their technicians on those specific appliances before allowing them to work independently.
In fact, Wolf's own guidance states that cleaning between its oven glass requires disassembly of the door and recommends that the work be performed only by trained Factory Certified Service providers.
That's why Prestige does not automatically include cleaning between the glass as part of an oven cleaning.
And it's why there will be doors we simply decline to disassemble.
