We'll give you an honest diagnosis before any repair work starts, so you know what's actually wrong and why — before we recommend fixing it.
Get it inspected first. Most grills have more life left in them than people expect, and a repair almost always costs a fraction of a new grill. If a repair genuinely isn't worth it — the firebox has severe rust damage, or parts for your model are no longer available — we'll tell you honestly instead of running up a repair bill, and we can help you pick the right replacement through our Grill Sales & Installation service.
We carry a limited stock, since there are so many grill brands and models out there. Most repairs need a quick inspection before we order the right part for your grill, so you're not paying for the wrong one.
Start with the basics: make sure the gas supply is on and the propane tank isn't empty, replace the igniter battery if your grill has one, and check that the burner ports aren't clogged with debris or grease. If it still won't light, the igniter, electrode, regulator or valve may be worn — that's when an inspection saves you from guessing at parts.
Turn off all burner controls and shut off the gas at the tank or supply valve, then step away. Don't try to light the grill or use anything that could spark. If the smell is strong, persists, or you're on a natural gas line, call your gas utility or 911. Don't use the grill again until the leak has been found and repaired — our technicians can inspect hoses, regulators and connections.
The usual causes are clogged burner ports, heavy grease build-up, worn or corroded burners, and damaged heat shields. A thorough grill cleaning often fixes it, and when it's a worn part, the cleaning's inspection will show which one.
